Challenges Faced By Tribals In Jharkhand





ABSTRACT

Handicraft has tremendous amount of potential to provide employment to
millions and millions of unemployed tribal artisans all over India . Tribals of
Jharkhand have a very old tradition of manufacturing handicrafts . Earlier they
used to make handicrafts for their personal use only . And nowadays handicrafts
product have very good market demand . But the tribal artisan are having lack of
proper professional training to manufacture craft products as a result they are
incapable of matching the market demand level . Government had been trying to
support the artisan by implementing various policies and programs so as to uplift
the socio-economic status of the tribal population of Jharkhand . But on the
ground government policies and programs have failed to bear the fruits that were
expected. Consequently, tribal craftsman and artisan faces different challenges in
the process of production and sale of handicrafts continue to be marginalised.
