ABSTRACT Handicraft has tremendous amount of potential to provide employment to millions and millions of unemployed tribal artisans all over India . Tribals of Jharkhand have a very old tradition of manufacturing handicrafts . Earlier they used to make handicrafts for their personal use only . And nowadays handicrafts product have very good market demand . But the tribal artisan are having lack of proper professional training to manufacture craft products as a result they are incapable of matching the market demand level . Government had been trying to support the artisan by implementing various policies and programs so as to uplift the socio-economic status of the tribal population of Jharkhand . But on the ground government policies and programs have failed to bear the fruits that were expected.
